Being there at the right moment, offering innovative content, or benefiting from the algorithm of the social network in question have helped some of the most successful profiles become major influencers for millions of followers. But how did he do it?
This man from Vigo had been dedicated to the audiovisual industry his whole life and from one moment to the next, He saw a community of followers grow that has completely changed his life..
It all started during the pandemic. The lockdown caused half of Spain to become huge fans of baking bread at home. Edu had been doing this for a while, and he decided to turn it into an Instagram account for his own use. “I open Instagram exclusively with the idea of having a photo album and not having to search through my camera roll.”
Circumstances meant that we all decided to believe ourselves pastry chefs and that is where his profile comes in (@opelouro) began to grow in followers. “Suddenly, you realize you have followers watching you from all over the world.” And at that moment, his life took an unexpected turn.
Among the various anecdotes she's collected, one that particularly excited her. "I met the drummer from Glass Animals when he contacted me during the pandemic because he wanted to learn how to make bread." This social network has provided her with an experience. It wasn't the only one: "Even a Michelin-starred chef came to our house to learn how to make bread," she explains.
"If you use them correctly, they allow you to meet a lot of people, learn a lot, and connect with people from all over the world..." Lavandeira points out. But like everything, It also has that darker side and he relates it to the addiction that it generates. The solution? “Education from parents and society about the harm they can cause, the hours you can put in, and that feeling of connection that comes with increasing followers and likes…” he concludes.
“The first thing is not wanting to be an influencer. Don't think of it as such. It's like making a video and wanting it to go viral. It's not a mathematical formula,” says Lavandeira. Or at least that's what worked for him. Unintentionally he saw how the followers grew and placed him among some of the most followed profiles in this fieldAnd that's despite the fact that her account has little to do with what Instagram has accustomed us to.

Although her intention was never to become an influencer, nor is it what she is looking for now, Yes, it is clear that there are certain guidelines that a person who wants to be successful in networks must follow."The key is to be authentic and original in what you do. Leave your mark."
"You can't keep doing the same thing for years to come. If the algorithm keeps changing, you have to change too so people don't get bored," he says.
But today, is there still room for influencers with a strong reach on social media to emerge? Her answer is resounding. "There's always room because there's so much to see. It's fast-paced consumption, and today you follow them and tomorrow you don't... Someone comes along who interests you more, and you follow someone else." Although the truth is that Instagram isn't making it easy for them or for emerging profiles.
