Instagram Reels Adds Two New TikTok-Inspired Features – Marketing 4 eCommerce

Throughout this year we have seen how TikTok has managed to overcome the barrier of 1 billion monthly active users, thus reaffirming its position within the ecosystem of the social networks. Based on this, platforms that have similar formats such as YouTube, with Shorts, either Snapchat Spotlight have begun to look for new ways to incentivize their users to create content in their applications. Even Instagram is using these incentive strategies to keep its Reels platform relevant in the face of TikTok's continued growth.
In recent days, Instagram has also announced the addition of two new tools to its Reels catalog:Text to Speech and Voice Effects, both already widely popularized on the Asian-origin app, with the social network led by Adam Mosseri continuing to capitalize on the successes of its competitors to catch up with them.

The first of these tools, Text to speech, originated as a means of enhance accessibility for people with visual impairments, Since it converts the text in the video into an audio format that makes it easier for these people to understand the content, many content creators have expanded its use due to the humor of the tool's monotonous, robotic voice.
To use this text-to-speech change in Reels you simply need use the text tool when recording or uploading a video. Then, after having inserted the text, we can click on the text bubble to access its menu where we can select the option Text to Speech. Here we will be given two voice options to select from. Once we choose the voice type, all that's left to do is publish the reel and wait for the results.

Now, the second tool Voice Effects, focuses on the field of audio modification to make it more interesting and entertaining. This allows creators to make changes to both the audio and the voiceover within the video, further boosting creativity in the creation process. To access this tool, once we upload the reel we must click click on the musical note button. Once there, we can select the effects they present and explore the different modifications that can be made.

In the last week, in addition to new tool integrations, the Meta family social network has also launched a new program incentives for its creators. This as a strategy for encourage the use of its reels platform over the TikTok platform. The bonus program Reels Play, is still in an early phase and only available to creators within USA.
Now, incentive programs are a normal thing for social networks nowadays, due to the large number of content creators and influencers who make a living on their platforms, where they also monetize their posts in order to make a living from it. Although what's notable in this case is that the Reels Play program offers very large bonuses to creators, As we see in the following tweet from content creator Miguel Lozada, his remuneration offer was $8,500 (€7,420).

Aside from the high viewing demands, with amounts like the one we just saw, this incentive program seems truly attractive. Still, creators have doubts and reservations about the program, especially given the wide variation in amounts for each creator. Furthermore, there is no transparency regarding how the compensation offered is managed. This means that profiles with fewer followers often receive higher rewards than others with larger communities.
Finally, Instagram has also announced a new incentive program called Reels Surprise, This will reward an estimated 150 US creators each week. They can win up to $10,000 (approximately €8,700) for a single Reel that is particularly inspiring or funny. To qualify, creators must be of legal age, comply with community guidelines, and have an existing Reel with more than 1,000 views.
