In 2018, Zakaría boarded a boat in Agadir, Morocco, and when he got off again, he was in the Canary Islands. This is how Zakxo was born, the rapper who arrived by boat; a young Moroccan who loved listening to hip hop in his country and that upon arriving in Spain he finally began to write his own verses.
"In my country I only heard it," says Zakxo. He liked rappers French, but I also heard the Granadans Dellafuente or Ayak. Upon arriving at the juvenile center began to write"I did it just for myself and my friends," she tells NIUS, "at first I was embarrassed to sing in public."
Shortly after arriving in Spain, he was transferred to Córdoba, where he still lives. "I feel at home here," he tells us. He began hanging out with people who also rapped. One of them encouraged him to record her songs. Even though she was embarrassed, one day she plucked up the courage and wrote to a music studio she had seen on Instagram.
Days later, I had a recording appointment at Singular Sound. "I was very nervous," Zakxo smiles, recalling the event. "I didn't even know what a studio looked like."In fact, he'd never even sung in front of a microphone. "It wasn't like I was singing at home," he jokes, "plus I had the language problem." With the help of the producer, Zakxo's songs began to take shape.
Now 23, Zakxo has already recorded several songs, such as "Clandestino," where he tells his own story. "I talk about myself, but I also talk about my friends, about stories of people close to me," he explains to NIUS, "not just about suffering." Zakxo makes music to have fun, and also to entertain.
When he's not rapping, Zakxo is studying. He's enrolled in a higher education program Social Integration, but this year he's had to postpone his studies due to his work schedule as a warehouse worker. "My colleagues ask me to rap my songs for them," he tells us. However, he's embarrassed, and usually dismisses requests and jokes with a silent smile.
"If it were to come, well, but I don't want fame or money," says Zakxo, "I just want to have fun." Even so, his fame is growing both inside and outside of Córdoba. His videos and songs have also reached his neighborhood in Agadir And from there, messages of support, but also of surprise, reach him. Because Zakxo left Morocco listening to music, and now Morocco and the rest of the world hear his songs.
