SAO PAULO, Dec 1 (Reuters) – Brazilian soccer legend Pele said in an Instagram post on Thursday that he is in the hospital for a monthly visit and expressed his gratitude for the messages of support he has received.
Pelé posted a photo on his social media account in which his image is projected onto a building in Qatar, the World Cup venue, along with a message that reads "Get well soon" in English.
"Friends, I'm in the hospital for my monthly visit. It's always nice to receive encouraging messages like this," the 82-year-old former soccer player said in the post.
“Thank you to Qatar for this tribute and to everyone who sends me good energy!”
On Tuesday, Pelé was admitted to a Sao Paulo hospital to re-evaluate his cancer treatment after having a tumor removed from his colon in September 2021.
The former striker, who led Brazil to three World Cup titles—in 1958, 1962, and 1970—has suffered health problems in recent years but has remained active on social media.
Last month, he said he hoped to see Brazil win a record-breaking sixth title in Qatar. (Reporting by Peter Frontini; editing by Aida Peláez-Fernández)
