“Vertigo won, football changed; Argentina's three midfielders are flying, flying. It's a different kind of football. The pivot, what pivot? Casemiro, out. Argentina played with three guys who are flying. When Mbappé, funny, said that Argentine football was obsolete, we called Enzo Ferrari and he sent us three red cards. And Ecclestone, because that kid MacAllister plays for Brighton and they did like this, tsé, tsé. Tchouameni, stiff, Rabiot, goodbye, Griezmann, goodbye. Messi put on his cape, the Cup, and Deschamps, who kicks like crazy, didn't see it!”
A minute and 37 seconds of analysis that was enough to fill social media and go viral, as it has so many other times since the program The Chiringuito from Spain. The robust voice, rosy cheeks, and an accent that doesn't sound strange. Of course, it's that Jorge D'Alessandro, at 73 years old, was the one who became the owner of Twitter, reels of Instagram, Tik Tok And so on. His message was even paraphrased on official social media. Who is D'Alessandro? What did he do in football?
A native of Buenos Aires, from the Belgrano neighborhood, the now panelist on the controversial Spanish program is not only Argentine: He was champion in his beloved San Lorenzo de Almagro During his time with Los Matadores, he became a legend at the Spanish club Salamanca, where he played for nine consecutive seasons. Of course, he's also a coach and was active until 2013, when he managed Huesca, also a Blaugrana side, before immersing himself in the shouting and TV show business.
His story, and his current nostalgia, still places him in Boedo. It was back when the Old Gasometer was still in operation (he still says his lifelong dream is to see San Lorenzo play again on Avenida La Plata) that his football career began. It was Francisco "El Loco" Doval (a San Lorenzo star) who brought him to try out for goal. And he never left it again, although he had to live under the shadows of Buttice and Irusta, two heroes..

D'Alessandro, bohemian, tango-loving and picturesque in every appearance on the program, confessed more than once that he was Carlos Toto Lorenzo, who guided him in football and who gave him his debut on October 12, 1967, in a 4-2 victory over Colo Colo. Champion in 1968 and 1972, his move to Europe came after a tour of Spain in 1974. He settled in Salamanca, which would be his second home and where he played 307 matches.
As an archer he twice won the most important award given in Spain, the trophy Zamora for being the goalkeeper who conceded the fewest goals. He did so in the 1974-75 and 1976-77 seasons, although they were recognized and awarded just a handful of years ago, following a data collection effort.
D'Alessandro retired due to various injuries that kept him off the pitch. At 35, he began his coaching career in the lower divisions at Salamanca, a club that folded in 2013 due to a financial crisis.
As a manager, he led Betis and Atlético Madrid for 22 matches (in 1994, he helped save them from relegation), as well as managing Salamanca and Mérida (winning promotion to the top flight), all in the First Division. He later established himself as a manager, playing for various lower-division clubs: Elche, Rayo Vallecano, and Gimnàstic de Tarragona. All until the TV cameras caught himAnd now he's showing off on social media, not just on the archery side, but on apps.
