How would you act if you found out that someone had been uploading your photos to a social media profile, but under a different name, and through it they had been seducing men and making up stories about their relatives?
This happened to Martha Hidalgo, a Venezuelan dentist who was impersonated by a Colombian woman who called herself Sara Manuela Giraldo.
Sara Manuela went viral on social media on Wednesday morning because Martha, the woman he took photos of, appeared on the Instagram stories of the account @saramanuelag11 explaining that that person did not exist, that it was a fake account.
Martha explained that the woman who created the profile Sara Manuela I uploaded the photos that she published so much on her account Instagram as in your WhatsApp statuses, and she did so for about two years, and through them she managed to contact men with whom she had romantic relationships virtually.
In an interview with EL COLOMBIANO, Hidalgo warned of the risks of social media.
“I want to tell everyone not to believe everything they see on social media, because this woman who used my photos only believed that I had a perfect life, that I only had a pretty face and body, but in reality there are days when I have also felt bad about myself, about my body, and although this situation has not caused me any harm, I hope it leaves people with that reflection,” said Martha in an exclusive interview she gave to El Colombiano.
How did the creator of Sara Manuela contact Martha?
According to Martha's stories in the profile she created for 'Sara Manuela', the woman once contacted her via WhatsApp to ask about a dental service.
She replied and saved the contact. The consultation never took place, but this was the way in which the woman who created Sara Manuela's profile began to see the photos she uploaded with her relatives, which she then posted on social networks.
The woman who took over Sara Manuela's account began to contact men. She talked to them via chat, she got them excited, but there was never a face-to-face meeting.
Even, as one of Martha's lovers told her, Sara Manuela, The woman made him buy a trip to Curacao, but the man was left holding the bag and buying the tickets at the airport because no one came.
It was one of those lovers who could not see Sara Manuela who contacted Martha and told her that she was being impersonated. She took steps to have the profile blocked and contacted the person who owned the domain.
The woman explained that she did it because she had weight and psychological problems and that was the way she found to be able to talk to someone. According to what some people who had a romantic relationship with the woman told her, she did not obtain any economic benefits from the relationships she had online. She only talked, she felt loved.
The story has transcended on social media because Martha contacted the woman who managed Sara Manuela's account and she explained her reasons, among which was that she had mental problems requiring psychiatric treatment.
For these reasons, Martha had initially thought of not suing the woman, but this Wednesday, as she confirmed to El Colombiano, she made the decision to take the case to the authorities. What she has not yet decided is whether she will do so in Venezuela or Colombia.
She also said that several Colombian lawyers had contacted her to help her with the process of filing a lawsuit in Colombian courts.
Martha now has control of Sara Manuela's Instagram account. In this way, and at least for now, she hopes to close this chapter of her life in which her identity was impersonated by a Colombian on social media.
