"Many people write to me saying they're motivated by my stories, and it's a joy (sic) that it's that way," the young influencer wrote. But what's behind the display of luxury on social media?
The son of Raquel Argandoñto, Nano CalderonHe's known for posting images of luxuries and even large sums of cash on social media. And, as he explained, there's a hidden agenda behind it.
In a Q&A session on Instagram, a follower asked the influencer: “Why do you always show off the money?”.
"Because I feel like it, haha," began the youngest of the Calderón-Argandoña clan. "Just like I post photos of the car, a landscape, a Coca-Cola, etc.," he continued.
“Many people write to me that they are motivated by my stories, and what a jewel (sic) that it is so,” he also added.
"Now, people who take it the wrong way and start crying over a story will cry over a story of mine, a story about their neighbor, or when they go out on the street, so I'm not into that mindset, just blocking it," he concluded.
“I find it much more entertaining to follow people who motivate me. "If I like cars, I'll follow whoever raises cars. If I like money, I'll follow whoever raises money. If I like motorcycles, let them raise motorcycles. I'm not in it for those assholes (sic) doing drugs and hitting on their ex," he concluded.
Just like Nano Calderón, showing off money and luxury on social media has become a phenomenon driven by influencers and is even beginning to be analyzed by some experts.
“Before social media, we used to have a general understanding that rich people had more,” he told CnetJasmine Teer, vice president of strategy at Small Girls PR.
With social media, we can access a rotating display of materialism and disparity 24 hours a day., depending on what we decide to consume and who we choose to follow,” he added.
That knowledge of what a millionaire could do is more than just an aspiration or a dream that many people want to achieve; it's a goal to reach, even if it's false.
This is one of the reasons why so many people create an imaginary world of luxury, go into debt beyond their means, use counterfeit products, and even Photoshop edits.
A few years ago, YouTuber ChristianAdamG conducted a social experiment and created an account with fake images of himself riding in a private jet, driving an exotic car, standing next to celebrities, and so on.
In one week, she gained thousands of new followers. Her video documenting that experience has over 5.6 million views.
But while many people experience dreams of opulence, others awaken a certain anger, as Calderón explained.

And seeing this kind of reality in a world experiencing a major crisis in which some can barely afford food, these photos are a testament to the disparity that exists, which leads to mockery and criticism.
Ultimately, social media luxury is a double-edged sword.
