The trophy held by the "Flea" is a replica that a couple from Buenos Aires brought to Lusail Stadium that day for the Qatar 2022 Final against France, and amid the celebrations, it ended up in the hands of the South American.
Although the Albiceleste captain received the real trophy from FIFA President Gianni Infantino during the awards ceremony, the imitation reached the striker during the on-field celebrations.

It was Ángel di María, after taking the iconic photo that already has 74 million likes on Instagram, who alerted Messi, who couldn't hide his laughter at the confusion.
Fernando de la Orden, a photographer for Clarín and Olé, uploaded the images to his Instagram account in which "El Fideo" breaks the news to Messi.
"Ángel di María tells Leo Messi that the trophy he had raised in front of the fans was a fake, and that he had the FIFA one," the post says.
