Instagram has a new feature, and thanks to it now videos or “reels” from the feed will automatically activate subtitles, competing with other platforms such as YouTube, Tik Tok, and Google.
This option will help people with audio limitations have a better experience using the social network and is a good resource for those who cannot activate the sound of their reels.
The company was forced to add them due to user demand. The subtitles will be automatically generated and available in "selected" languages, according to Engadget.
Instagram hopes that subtitles will improve over time so that it can be a useful feature for everyone. In this initial phase, they are starting to roll out in select languages like English and are expected to gradually expand, as for now, only text will be generated in the same language as the videos.
There are two ways to activate the tool, here is a brief guide for both:
Option 1
The first thing you should do is go to your Instagram profile, click on the menu, and select “Settings.”
Click on the “Account” section and select the “Subtitles” option to activate.
Option 2
This is a more direct option, as they are not currently generated automatically in some videos. There will be reels where you will have to click on the "Manage subtitles" option, which will take you to the settings and there you can activate them as well as choose the language.
The app recently announced it will also permanently disable the IGTV clips feature so users can upload their video content to the Reels section, though it noted that IGTV videos will not be disappearing.
