Instagram has just launched new features designed to help keep users' accounts secure and provide better and more comprehensive support if they lose access to their accounts.
To support accounts that are experiencing login issues or may have been hacked, Instagram has created a new page on its website, which can be accessed at Instagram.com/hackedThis page allows users to report and resolve issues accessing their account.
To recover an Instagram account, several options have been created, one of which is the ability to choose two Instagram friends who will be the ones to confirm the user's identity if they are locked out. Once the user's identity is verified, Instagram will grant access to their account.
Instagram also announced measures to help prevent hacking on the service before it happens. One of those measures was removing accounts that Instagram's automated systems consider malicious, including fake accounts impersonating other users.
Also, because bad actors often don't immediately use accounts maliciously, the social network will now begin sending warnings if it suspects an account is impersonating another user and that fake account starts following that user. Additionally, in the coming months, it will also begin sending warnings if it suspects an account that appears to be impersonating a business sends a direct message to that business.
Another new feature is that they're now displaying the blue verified account badge in more places. This allows users to quickly determine if the account they're interacting with is authentic. In addition to the user profile, they can now see the verified account badge in Stories and Direct Messages (DMs). It will soon also be visible in the Feed itself.
Finally, to keep your accounts secure it is also necessary to have a strong password, difficult to break and activate the two-factor authentication.
