At the World Cup training camps in Qatar, it's not all about training and listening to coaching briefings during the break between matches. Social media offers players a respite from the pressures. This is especially true if the debut is positive, as was the case for forwards Michy Batshuayi and Ecuadorian Enner Valencia, teammates at Fenerbahce in Turkey.
The two footballers heated up the networks with a funny photomontage in which they sneak into the most talked-about advertising image of this World Cup, the one that shows Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo playing chess.
“This is getting out of control,” the Belgian wrote to the Ecuadorian, sharing the retouched photo.
This is getting out of control @EnnerValencia14 🤣💛💙 https://t.co/SVWqHf2aku
Batshuayi scored Belgium's only goal in their opening match against Canada, while Valencia scored two (and had another disallowed) in the tournament's opening match against hosts Qatar.
The photo of Messi and Cristiano corresponds to a campaign by the French company Louis Vuitton.Victory is in the Mind"A long artisanal tradition of trunk making, photographed by Annie Leibovitz for Louis Vuitton," the Argentine national team captain posted on his Instagram account.
The author of the image is Annie Leibovitz, One of the world's most renowned photographers. The two stars play a game of chess on a stack of trunks bearing the two classic Louis Vuitton monograms.
A post shared by Leo Messi (@leomessi)
In the scene, the board on which the players compete in a game of chess is a suitcase bearing the monogram known as "damier" in French, or checkerboard, which recreates the surface on which checkers or chess is played. The Paris Saint-Germain striker plays with the black pieces, while the Manchester United striker moves the white pieces.
Both Ronaldo and the brand in question published the same content in English, while Messi added a Spanish translation.
“In addition to a long tradition of crafting trunks for the world's most coveted sports trophies, Louis Vuitton pays tribute to two of today's most talented soccer players", the company highlighted in its publication.
This week, Ronaldo showered Messi with praise in an interview with the British channel Talk TV“He's an incredible player. Magical. Top. As a person, we shared the stage for 16 years. Imagine 16 years. So, I have a great relationship with him,” he said.
“I'm not friends with him, in terms of like a friend who was with you at your house or talking on the phone. No, but he's like a teammate", he said.
Considered at least the two best players of this century, the Argentine and the Portuguese had a healthy rivalry, reflected in the 12 Ballon d'Or awards they have won together, with 7 for the Rosario native and 5 for the Portuguese idol.
Furthermore, Cristiano Ronaldo highlighted his bond with Messi and the exchanges they have: “He's a guy I respect a lot, the way he always talks about me. Even his wife or my wife, my girlfriend, They always have respect and are from ArgentinaMy girlfriend is from Argentina. Very well. What can I say about Messi? A great guy who does great things for football..
