Viral: Messi celebrated with a fake cup in Qatar – La Nación

Argentina national team captain Lionel Messi celebrated in Qatar with a replica of the World Cup brought to Lusail Stadium by two fans from La Plata. The image of this moment made the front page of every newspaper and broke records for the number of likes it received.
According to the Argentine press, the trophy La Pulga lifted that night in Qatar was not the official FIFA trophy. That cup was a replica carried by La Plata fans, which wandered onto the pitch by chance. The photo of this moment is currently the one with the most likes in all of Instagram history (74 million).
Fernando de la Orden, a photographer and special correspondent for Clarín and Olé in Qatar, discovered the story after posting a screenshot of Di María and Messi on his social media. In the image, the Rosario natives were kissing the trophy and smiling. His curious followers asked him about the conversation between the two players.

Fernando responded specifically by saying that Di María told Leo that he had given away a fake trophy. The owners of the replica commented on the post, and that's how it reached the owners of the fake trophy: Paula Zuzulich and Manuel Zaro, both fans of the Argentine national team.
According to the La Plata residents' account, the replica first entered the field with the help of one of the relatives of defensive midfielder Leandro Paredes, who was asked to act as an intermediary in obtaining the signature of the Argentine national team's leading scorer. The trophy then made its way to Messi for the iconic photograph.

The protagonists requested the replica six months in advance from people who make cups. The fake trophy weighs the same as the original and is made of resin and quartz inside, coated with a gold-like paint.
The real trophy was kept in a vault for security reasons and can be distinguished from its replica by the color of its base. The original cup actually has a gold base and the names of the world champions written on it.
