A podcast is an audio product which has a defined frequency and can be made up of several episodes, although it has its origins in radio, today those who like this format can find it on internet pages or streaming platforms like Spotify.
Although podcasts began as a discussion between several participants on a particular topic, over time the ways of doing them have diversified and now it can be just one person speaking or a group, likewise, they are not only used as a space to exchange points of view, but they also cover genres of interview like the podcast #EnCasaDeMara where he asks questions to various characters such as Edy Smol, either fiction, as is the case with the suspense story of Chilean podcast Case 63, or deal with topics of science, politics, journalism, well-being, among others.
The word “podcast” was first used on February 12, 2004. by journalist Ben Hammersley from The Guardian in an article in which I talked about how economically viable it was to make an online radio program and access it whenever users want.
Although there are various debates about when the first podcast in history emerged, several experts have pointed out that the idea was clear from the creation of the Thomas Alva Edison's phonograph in 1870, when intellectuals of the time such as Philip Hubert, Octave Uzanne and Edward Bellamy predicted that people would end up “reading with their eyes closed” books, newspapers and magazines and even mothers would stop snoring while telling stories to their children before going to sleep.
Spotify in Peru

It was on December 12, 2013 when the music streaming platform arrived in Peru., being the 55th country on its list. It initially offered a catalog of 20 million songs.
Founded in 2006, the Swedish company formally began its activities in Europe on October 7, 2008 and has gradually gained a presence throughout the world, currently in 187 countries and offering a music catalog of more than seven million artists.
Today the platform for streaming It has agreements with record labels Universal Music, Sony Music, EMI Music, Hollywood Records, Interscope Records, Warner Music, among others. This has allowed it to reach more than 433 million users, according to the latest data released by the company itself.
Compared to its competitors, who have opted to pay based on physical sales or downloads, Spotify has followed a model in which it has decided to pay artists in its catalog a fixed price per song or album sold and number of streams.
Furthermore, 70% of their total revenue goes to copyright holders, mostly record labels, who then pay artists based on their individual contracts.
It's worth noting that anyone can currently enjoy Spotify's free service, as long as you're willing to put up with ads and restrictions like not being able to skip some songs. Or there are various plans that can be adjusted to your needs already in your pocket.
Strong competition
The coronavirus pandemic not only benefited podcasts by increasing their number of users, but Audiobooks also gained more consumers on various platforms, including Spotify, as it is estimated that they can generate annual profits of up to $70 billion.
The streaming platform, where audiobooks have been growing in 20%, has turned to narrating books with the voices of Hollywood celebrities.
Its rise could also be due to criticism of the ease with which the platform has allowed podcasters to speak, falling into errors of misinformation in the midst of the pandemic, as was the case with Joe Rogan, which also caused the company to lose up to $2.1 million.
