Here&#039;s what they think. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.genbeta.com\/redes-sociales-y-comunidades\/instagram-censura-los-pezones-femeninos-pero-permite-las-peleas-de-gallos\">not only human rights defenders<\/a> and some Facebook and Instagram users, but also the Meta Content Advisory Board that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oversightboard.com\/decision\/BUN-IH313ZHJ\/\">has recommended<\/a> clarify the guidelines used to censor material.<br \/>The recommendation, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/01\/20\/technology\/meta-nudity-standards-overhaul.html\">first seen by<\/a> <em>The New York Times, <\/em>not only considers the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.xatakaciencia.com\/antropologia\/instagram-y-su-guerra-en-contra-de-ensenar-pezones-al-descubierto\">nothing new controversy<\/a> that nipple censorship tends to be stricter for women than for men, but also involves two cases of non-binary and transgender people who posted images of themselves with their tops bare. The posts in question were removed at the time and, after a dispute process was initiated, <strong>Instagram restored the posts<\/strong>.<br \/>The content of the posts that were deleted and later restored addresses the medical care received by transgender people. It also indicates that one of the couple was soon to undergo surgery, a process for which funds were being raised at the time.<br \/>Delete posts \u201c<em>It is not a measure consistent with Meta&#039;s community standards, values, or human rights responsibilities.<\/em>&#8220;, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oversightboard.com\/decision\/BUN-IH313ZHJ\/\">according to the council<\/a> which is made up of 22 academics, journalists, and human rights defenders. The council is funded by Meta but operates independently, and its recommendations often gain so much traction that Meta has said that <strong>will respond publicly to this recommendation by mid-March<\/strong>.<br \/>In detail, the council&#039;s analysis included procedures that need to be fine-tuned, given that in these cases, at least one automated system trained to enforce the EU standard on nudity and sexual activity sent the post for manual review. The standard under consideration does prohibit images depicting female nipples, except in very specific cases, such as content related to breastfeeding and gender-affirming surgeries.<br \/>The thing is that <strong>The rule is unclear when it comes to intersex, non-binary, or transgender people.<\/strong> and therefore allows evaluators to \u201c<em>perform rapid and subjective assessments of sex and gender<\/em>\u201c, the council assures.<br \/>The theme recalls the movement &#039;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.trendencias.com\/cine\/free-the-nipple-instagram-censura-a-almodovar-mostrar-pezon-como-cartel-su-pelicula-luego-rectifica\">Free the nipple<\/a> which addresses how disparate Meta&#039;s rules are around men&#039;s nipples and women&#039;s nipples. The council takes the conversation further and says that the rule, <a href=\"https:\/\/help.instagram.com\/477434105621119\">as it is<\/a>, not only can it negatively impact women\u2019s expression, but it can also disproportionately affect people in the LGBTQI+ community.<em>The Council finds that Meta&#039;s policies on adult nudity pose greater obstacles to the expression of women, transgender, and non-binary people on its platforms.<\/em>&#8220;, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oversightboard.com\/decision\/BUN-IH313ZHJ\/\">it is read<\/a> in the resolution.&nbsp;<br \/>The decision is now in Meta&#039;s favor. It can address the recommendation and explain its position without making any changes, given that the recommendation is non-binding, or it can effectively modify its rules regarding content involving nipples.
