In 2021, it was actually the most downloaded app (around 656 million on Google Play).<br \/><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.elespanol.com\/mujer\/actualidad\/20220802\/mujeres-influyentes-tiktokers-espanolas-arrasan-red\/692180873_0.html\">[Women and influencers: the 5 Spanish TikTokers who are making the most waves online]<\/a><\/em><br \/>Even so, some traditional networks are resisting: \u201cAll social networks have a life cycle, and it&#039;s generally short; examples are Snapchat and Clubhouse. Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram are an anomaly,\u201d explains Ferran Lalueza, a professor at the UOC&#039;s Faculty of Information and Communication Sciences.<br \/><span>More and more applications are trying to put an end to the image web, or at least put it in the background. <\/span><br \/><span>Among them, it is obligatory to mention <\/span><strong>BeReal.\u00a0<\/strong>This French app is ranked second among the most popular free apps on the App Store and 30th on Google Play, ahead of Netflix, Duolingo, Booking, Glovo, and Uber.<br \/><span>It was launched in 2020, but it wasn&#039;t until January 1, 2022, that it began to take off.<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>Its MAUs (monthly active users) have grown by 315 % and, according to the company, its downloads total 7.67 million.<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>However, for Lalueza, BeReal isn&#039;t as strong a competitor as TikTok has been.<br \/>&#8220;<strong>I don&#039;t think BeReal will become a future Instagram.<\/strong>&quot;They&#039;re different concepts, and once their novelty wears off, they&#039;ll lose their relevance,&quot; Lalueza insists. In fact, this expert emphasizes that one of the secrets to Instagram&#039;s longevity and success lies in &quot;the number of celebrities present there, which keeps users engaged with the app because it&#039;s a way to stay informed and meet their idols,&quot; he explains.<br \/><strong>This more \u201crisky\u201d application is certainly different from anything seen before.<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cWith a profile similar to Instagram, in<span>\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"il\">Poparazzi<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>Only the person&#039;s friends can upload photos.<br \/>In fact, it draws a bit from Tuenti, another app that has since disappeared, and which was a bottomless pit with no filters and virtually no control over what friends uploaded. Jokes, selfies, and drunken photos piled up on your profile in no particular order, and that was part of its charm.<br \/>However, in<span>\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"il\">Poparazzi<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>There are rules, and only images of people registered on the app can be uploaded. If someone tries to upload an image of you, you&#039;ll receive an invitation to join the platform.<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>Additionally, you can only upload photos of those on whose friends list you are.<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>If we want to upload a photo of someone who does not have us on their list, the person in the image will receive a notification and will have to accept the photo.<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>a priori<\/em>.<br \/>Another key aspect to avoid being trolled is that you can request the removal of an image that appears on your profile at any time, as well as block another person from uploading your photos,&quot; the UOC experts emphasize.<br \/>\u201cWith the rise of TikTok and its thirty-second videos, the app<em>\u00a0<\/em>Mark Zuckerberg added the concept of\u00a0<em>reels<\/em>. Therefore, it is not surprising that, now, Instagram wants to add some BeReal to its application umbrella<em><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/em>for all types of visual content.<br \/>In fact, the reverse engineering expert<span>\u00a0<\/span>Alessandro Paluzzi has shared a thread on Twitter in which he shows <strong>a very similar feature that Instagram is developing and will be called IG Candid Challenges<\/strong>, which works quite familiarly if you&#039;ve had any contact with BeReal. The user will receive a notification and have two minutes to post a photo, without filters.
