Guatemalan producer, musician, and YouTuber Kriz Nicolau unveils his projects.

On their albums and singles, Kriz Nicolau<\/a><\/strong> He plays bass, guitar, drums, vocals, production, mixing, mastering, and album art; he does it all. At the age of 14, the musician began his musical journey with the band Kenoba, which performed several times in Rockol Vuh<\/strong>.
In 2009 he was admitted to the Musician's Institute in Hollywood, California<\/strong>, where he obtained his diploma as Associate of Arts in Performance,<\/em> specializing in guitar. During his student days, he had the opportunity to play at the House of Blues with his band Dead Letter District.\u00a0
\u201c<\/strong>The only way to innovate is to merge musical genres.\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em> Kriz Nicolau<\/strong>
Upon his return to the country he inaugurated the Clef Recording Studio<\/strong>, a space dedicated to Guatemalan artists who want to record and perform live. This gave him a foothold in the local scene and earned work with Bohemia Suburbana, Filoxera, Kontra, Easy Easy, and others.
In 2015 he produced his first EP Sky Within<\/em>,<\/strong> and in 2019 he published Red String<\/em>, a thematic and instrumental production. He is currently working on his next progressive metal album, which
will be released in 2023.\u00a0
Mix of musical styles<\/strong>
In 2022 he promoted his song Zombie<\/em><\/strong>,<\/em> which he recorded with just the bass; it doesn't have a guitar. "The lyrics are about how people are self-destructing through social media; we're dehumanizing ourselves," Nicolau emphasized. In 1999, the writer Gail Simone<\/strong> noticed a disturbing trend: female characters in comics superheroes<\/strong> were constantly killed, raped, or suffered traumatic injuries as a way to further the plot development of the male characters. Simone created a website called Women in Refrigerators <\/em>(WiR)<\/strong> to draw attention to the frequency of this circumstance in the industry.
The term \u201cWomen in Refrigerators\u201d <\/em>comes from a specific incident in Green Lantern<\/em> Vol. 3 #54 (1994), where Kyle Rayner's girlfriend, Alexandra DeWitt, is murdered and stuffed into a refrigerator by the villain Major Force. This event serves as the catalyst for Kyle's transformation into the superhero. Green Lantern<\/em> and serves as a means for her character development, while Alexandra's death is simply used as a narrative device, which is called "putting in the fridge" (fridging)<\/em>.

He fridging<\/strong><\/em> It's used to motivate male characters or give them emotional depth, but it often does so at the expense of the agency and development of female characters. These women are often used as plot devices, and their suffering is used to further the male characters' stories rather than being treated as fully developed characters in their own right.
There are numerous examples of WiR in comics. On her website, Simone lists over 100 cases. Here are three notable ones:
1. In The Killing Joke<\/em>, <\/strong>Barbara Gordon (Batgirl<\/em>) is paralyzed by a shot from the Joker, who then proceeds to strip her naked and photograph her for
unhinge his father.
2. In The Night Gwen Stacy Died<\/strong><\/em>, the girlfriend of Spider-Man<\/em> She is thrown off the Brooklyn Bridge by the Green Goblin, and dies when the hero tries to save her.
3. In Daredevil<\/em>, Elektra<\/strong> She is killed by Bullseye with her own you know<\/em>.
While both men and women in comics suffer attacks and humiliation, men tend to die heroic deaths, while women are killed in casual or sexualized ways. And only male characters are given the opportunity to return to their previous status with relative ease. While Batman<\/strong><\/em> It took a year to recover from a horrific spinal cord injury, Barbara Gordon spent a decade confined to a wheelchair. \u00a0 \u00a0
Simone's list caused a stir and has made some writers conscious of the types of stories they produce. It has also led many fans and critics to call for more nuanced and complex representations of female characters in comics, with stories where they are treated with the same respect as male characters.

The Guatemalan architect and visual artist Jorge Luis Linares<\/strong> began a documentary investigation of sound, photography and digital video<\/strong> of the ravines surrounding Guatemala City, within the framework of the artistic residency of Guardabarranco House. <\/a><\/strong>
\u201cCliffs are the main lungs of the urban area, with their diverse flora and fauna; essential for the city's natural reserves. These ecosystems are threatened by humans, who contaminate them with solid waste dumps, vehicular roads, and other sources,\u201d he noted.
\u201c<\/strong>With these works, I seek to make visible and raise awareness among viewers of how our individual and collective behavior affects the immediate environment, in this case, primarily the ravines.\u201d <\/strong><\/em>Jorge Luis Linares<\/strong>
\u00a0The artist has worked on themes such as: Environmental, visual and auditory pollution, Vehicle load, Main bridges, Vehicular arteries and Population growth in Guatemala City.
\u201cLinares delves into an experiential investigation of these vestiges of nature, which population growth has segmented around the city. Through the use of digital media, he creates immersive environments that invite the viewer to experience a sensorial experience with the help of sounds, shapes, and colors of the so-called urban lungs,\u201d wrote Andr\u00e9s Cord\u00f3n in the curatorial text.

Linares is a graduate of the Rafael Rodr\u00edguez Padilla National School of Plastic Arts and is an architect by the University of San Carlos of Guatemala (Usac<\/a><\/strong>).
